Connecting the Dots

Women’s Spring Bible Studies start the second week of February. See the full list of studies offered below and register in the Hodges Atrium on Sunday, January 31 and Sunday, February 7 or register online here

“Okay, sounds easy enough. I can do that. I can get along with almost anybody.”

I remember the day back a few years ago when I had that ridiculous thought.

I was reading my Bible and was in the book of Romans when I came to chapter 12 verse 18, where it says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Ha! I thought. Easy peasy.

And then it happened.

One misguided word peppered with a few untamed emotions and BAM!, I was caught in a sticky situation with a whole lot of miscommunication.

The words in Romans 12:18 worked great on paper, but I didn’t know how to take them from the page and apply them to my life, nevertheless have them stick to my heart.

But Chets Creek Women’s Bible studies and Life University came to the rescue when they offered a class called Unglued.

The study was about how to tame raw emotions and the reactions they invoke. Unglued  helped me connect the dots from my brain to my heart and allowed me to apply Romans 12:18 to my every-day-walking-around life.

And that’s how cool our God is. He not only gives us the Bible, the absolute how-to-do-life manual and the gift of Holy Spirit to help us understand  it… but He doesn’t stop there, He goes one step farther.

Because He knows we all learn and process information in unique ways, He created gifted authors and teachers to help us connect the dots. People like Beth Moore, Jennifer Rothschild, Jennie Allen, Priscilla Shirer, Ray Vander Laan, Jim Cymbala, and Stephen and Alex Kendrick, use biblical truth and their personal stories to give us practical ways to apply God’s principles to our lives. They give us a fresh spin on familiar material causing our brains to light up and our hearts to lap up God’s Word.

And when this happens God’s Word becomes just as much a part of us as the air we breathe.

We can’t live without it.

So why am I telling all of this?

Because the Women’s Spring Bible Studies and Life University are about to begin and the classes being offered are by all the amazing authors mentioned above. I don’t want you to miss out on these life-transforming studies.

Read through the list below, pray, and then be sure to register at church or online here.

It’s Hosea and Gomer’s love story and it is your love story. When your looking for identity, God calls you His own. When you feel enslaved, God frees you. When you wander away, God brings you home. No matter where you are, God sees who you are and loves you faithfully. His unfailing love changes everything.

by Jennie Allen
Leaders: Michelle Arguello, Thais Varzoni, Liza Akley
Workbook/DVD Study
8 Weeks – Room 183

Restless offers a practical plan to identify the threads of your life and how to intentionally weave them together for God’s glory and purposes. What would happen if God got bigger than your fear and insecurity, and you spent the rest of your life running without reservation after his purposes for you? You were created for more!

The Armor of God
by Priscilla Shirer
Leader: Rebecca Ray
Workbook/DVD Study
7 Weeks – Room 185

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you – unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you’re tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, The Armor of God study is for you! The Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer’s inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory.

Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus
by Lisa Harper
Leader: Daphne Summers
Workbook/DVD Study
7 Weeks – Room 184

The book of Hebrews, a letter by an unknown author, was written to reassure Christians going through times of great trials. This letter takes the focus away from our trials and back to Jesus, His all sufficiency and supremacy. Jesus is the plumb line for all who have claimed his name and continue in their faith-walk. Are we “plumb” to what He taught? The encouragement of Hebrews remind us to return to what we were  first taught, in rejoicing and prayer to God, and exhorts us to remain in the teachings of Christ!

Children of the Day
by Beth Moore
Leader: Ali Long
Workbook/DVD Study
9 Weeks – Room 187

You light up a room. Grocery shopping, strolling through a park, or grabbing coffee – you are never without His light. The New Testament believers carried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica, just as you carry that light today. Shine brightly as you study 1 and 2 Thessalonians with Beth Moore. “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5)

Walking by Faith

Faith Lessons: Walk as Jesus Walked
by Ray Vander Laan
Leader: Diane Coelho
Workbook/DVD Study
5 Weeks – Room 211

As disciples of Jesus, we’ve discovered that following Him demands a passion for the Bible and a devotion to Christian community. But there is more. A disciple is consumed with a passion to be like the Rabbi – Jesus. Come and discover the passion of our early Christian brothers and sisters. Follow in their footprints as they loved the Messiah with all their heart, all their soul, and all their might – every moment of every day.

Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith
by Beth Moore
Leader: Gina Cruz
Workbook/DVD Study
10 Weeks – Room 210

Fingerprints of God: Recognizing God’s Touch On Your Life
by Jennifer Rothschild
Leader: Eve Huntley
Workbook/DVD Study
7 Weeks – Room 231

The God who raised mountains and set the mighty waves in motion wants you to feel His tender touch. While not skin-on-skin or 98.6 degrees, God’s touch is always personal. God’s essential touch separates us from all other created beings, His touch warns, affirms, and guides us; it communicates value and self-esteem. This study teaches us to recognize six things we can experience because of God’s touch: honor, intimacy, shelter, guidance, redemption, and refinement.

When You Are Called To A Great Work

Three years ago Lisa Wolff’s quiver was full. She had everything she could possibly want with two precious girls, a husband, 2 cats, 2 dogs, a large house and a good job.

God calls usShe was content.

Until, God broke her heart.

Not in the sense of hurt feelings, but in the sense of a call.

A call her heart felt burdened to undertake yet one she didn’t feel equipped to take on.

It wasn’t a call she requested and it wasn’t one that she necessarily wanted.

When Lisa first heard God whisper, a hundred questions raced through her mind. Questions about safety, finances, her marriage, her age.

But bathing her fears in prayer, she remained faithful and stayed the course.

Because God called her to a great work.

Approximately 2,500 years ago, around 445 BC God also broke the heart of an unsuspecting guy named Nehemiah. He called Nehemiah to do a great thing amidst some impossible odds.

Nehemiah was in service to the king of Persia when God called him to rebuild the city wall of Jerusalem. He got word from Judah that his people were in danger and it broke his heart (Nehemiah 1:4). But what could he do? A king’s servant doesn’t simply ask for time off. He could have ignored the burden on his heart but he didn’t. Nehemiah bathed his burden in prayer and King Artaxerxes not only gave him time off to go, he made him governor to the Jerusalem province as well.

When God breaks our heart for His plan, He builds us a path to His purpose.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, “The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.” (NIV)

Once in Jerusalem, Nehemiah worked diligently to complete his task.

In Nehemiah 6:3, he reminds us of his resolve when he says, “…I am doing a great work and cannot go down.” (ESV)

Although he was chided by trouble makers and his life was threatened by enemies he stood firm and did not come down off the wall until it was finished and the city of Jerusalem was safe.

Why did he bother?

Because Nehemiah was called to do a great work.

On Tuesday January 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. my friend Lisa Wolff and husband Dylan will add four more to their “Wolff pack. The adoption of Chance, Sean, Makenzie, and Ashten will be complete.

Lisa’a heart broke three years ago when she heard that after the death of their mother and being abandoned by their father, these siblings would be separated if put up for traditional adoption. So God called her to make a choice. Trust Him and stand firm or turn her head and walk away.

After much prayer Lisa and Dylan together chose option one.

During this three-year process this couple faced obstacles, objections and opposition and at times feared for the safety of their family.

Making this decision to take on these extra children has strapped Lisa and Dylan’s finances, their time, and emotional reserve. The children were left with nothing—clothes had to be purchased, school arrangements had to be made and the trauma of blending two families left wounds that needed to be healed.

But Jehovah Jireh (The Lord will provide), has done just that. He has come to their aid with people, protection, provision and purpose.

God doesn’t just call us, He makes a way for the call.

He doesn’t leave us on the side of the road empty. He helps us in all things, through all things, to do all things He has ordained us to do.

It matters not that we think we can’t. It only matters that we believe God can.

And when God sets a plan in motion, no obstacle, naysayer, or circumstance can stop it.

The Wolff six-pack

The Wolff six-pack

What is God calling you to today that’s breaking your heart? And what are you going do about it?

Scripture tells us we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7).

Nehemiah built a wall and reaped the protection and the esteem of God’s people.

And what about Lisa?

“Her children rise up and call her blessed…” Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)

It makes me wonder, what will I reap?

How about you?

One step in the same direction

As I run my hands across blank calendar pages, I wonder what lies ahead. So much anticipation. So much wonder of what this year will bring.

Yet I know there certain things that will happen this year regardless of whether they are on my calendar – lives will be changed and God will receive the glory.

You see somewhere along this journey I was taught that it’s the “long obedience in the same direction” that makes the difference. (Pastors Spike, Glenn and Kitty’s ministry commitment to Chets is a great example).  Naturally, this truth can apply to anything…hobbies, goals, relationships. For Chets Women, we are committed to the long obedience of seeing women Changed to Bring Change.

So as we look forward to what will happen for Chets Women in 2016, we can look back and thank God for what He has done in and through us. (Find your photo below!)

In 2015, many women decided it was time to take their relationship with Jesus to the next level and formed a Discipleship Triad – a group of three women who focus on the essentials of God’s Word together. They commit to meet weekly and in doing so develop encouraging, accountable relationships with each other as they become disciples who are capable of making disciples!

In March, women gathered in 16 homes across Jacksonville for a 2 day, life-changing event. We listened to amazing speakers and inspiring testimonies. We talked, we laughed, we cried, we connected. We left inspired, with a solid rock in our hand and ready to put our faith into action!

This is the first year we all joined together for a summer Bible study and it was GOOD!  Using Jeannie Allen’s book, Restless, we studied the life of Joseph and identified the threads of our life and how to intentionally weave them together for God’s glory and purposes.

On September 24, Chets Women joined together with women all over the world for an incredible night of prayer and worship.

IF:PRAY @ Chets Creek Church

In October, Chets Women gathered around 22 Tables to share a simple meal and dive deep into Christ-centered conversations. It was a time for a whole lot of laughter and a few tears, but time spent that left us with glad hearts. Full hearts. Grateful hearts.

To get the word out about Well Fed, Chets Women’s annual large gathering on October 18th, we took “Fork Selfies” and showed our silly side!

Well Fed Fork Selfies!

At Well Fed we all came together for one incredible evening of dinner, fellowship, worship and the Word.  We examined the life of the woman at the well from a different perspective (watch the powerful message here). We also heard from the Connect and Unleash teams and four beautiful, brave women who shared their hearts and prayed for ours.

In 2015, we had many opportunities to come together and serve our community, below are just a few of the highlights. (If you want more info about our 2016 SERVE DAYS contact Michelle Arguello.)

We gathered and packed food for families in need at the Christ Church Food Pantry. We also had the opportunity to pray for many of them. A blessing for all involved.

The women of Chets Nocatee have also had a great first year together! We prayed fervently together during the months before the official campus launch, we experienced IF:Gathering and IF:Pray together, we’ve helped develop community through LifeGroups and regular prayer/accountability/fellowship gatherings, and we’ve grown together in mid-week Bible studies. We’re grateful for a happy and healthy first year!

This year, as we stay on this same path, we pray for more…more changed lives…more harvest hands….more glory to God. Will you consider joining us and serving God by investing in Chets Women? There is no greater thing to give your life to! Opportunities to serve are endless, from blog writers, study leaders, prayer warriors, triad leaders, community ministry liaisons….we want you to serve where God is working in Chets Women.

You are invited to get involved. Now that is something to put on your calendar!
